What is gastroenterology?

Gastroenterology is a branch of medicine that focusses on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the digestive system, namely esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine (colon), pancreas and liver.

What is hepatology?

Hepatology is a branch of medicine that focusses on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the liver. Examples are fatty liver, hepatitis including B and C, alcoholic liver disease, liver cirrhosis and liver cancer.

What is the irritable bowel syndrome ?

It is a common chronic condition affecting the large intestine causing abdominal (tummy) pain, bloating, and change in bowel movements (diarrhea, constipation).

What is endoscopy ?

It is a non-surgical procedure used to examine the digestive tract by passing a flexible tube with a light and camera attached to it. Two common endoscopies are gastroscopy and colonoscopy.

What is fatty liver ?

It is a common condition caused by having too much fat in the liver and can sometimes lead to serious damage to the liver.
